You can put a safeguard in place to protect your most important asset – your ability to earn a living.

If you get hurt or so sick that you cannot work, how would you survive financially without prematurely raiding your savings and retirement accounts?  Becoming disabled is not a certainty, but it is an unfortunate reality.*

Most people do not know that…

  • 72% of American employees live paycheck to paycheck, without enough savings to cover the financial impact of a disability.
  • Becoming disabled and losing the ability to earn a living during one’s working years is 3X more likely than dying.
  • 51 million working Americans have no disability insurance, other than the basic coverage available through Social Security.
  • 25% of workers can expect at some point to become disabled for a least a period of 12 months prior to retirement age.
  • 57% of small business owners are vulnerable to losing their income due to an illness or injury because they have not planned ahead and covered themselves with disability income insurance.
  • Over 40% of bankrupties filed in the U.S. stem, at least in part, from loss of income due to medically-related disabilities.*

As small business owners, U-Haul Dealers can protect their income with disability insurance through the Dealer Benefits Program.  Use the benefit money to help pay business and family bills, keep the business open and maintain your standard of living.

Me? Disabled? – What are the chances?

Me? Disabled?  The chances of losing your income to a disability are greater than you may think.  A full 20% of workers will become disabled during their working careers and the highest chance of becoming disabled occurs at ages 50-59.  Most (90%) of disability claims result from illnesses.  Only 10% are caused by accidents (and only 5% are work-related).  On average, disability claims last between 4 to 5 years.*

Self-employed business owners must go it alone when it comes to disability income.  Even if an injury is work-related, an independent business owner may not claim Workers Compensation on themselves.
