Not to Worry
Posted February 1, 2017
U-Haul Dealers and employees should not be worried about losing their 2017 health plans if Obamacare, known as the Affordable Care Act (ACA), is repealed. Health insurers are contractually bound to honor their health plans for the full year, even if the ACA is repealed or significant changes are made.
We will all see what changes are made in the coming months by the new Congress and Administration. Dealer Benefits is closely monitoring proposed legislation and regulations and through our membership in health industry associations we are providing input to decision-makers in hopes of achieving improvements in health insurance plans that will benefit U-Haul Dealers and employees, particularly in the important areas of cost and availability.
This is nothing new. Health plans and insurers change every year and are highly regulated by both the states and the federal government. Through our due diligence processes, we will continue to seek out and include for your selection the best-value health plans we can find, underwritten by top-rated health insurers and approved by the insurance authorities in your state. Just as in 2017, our goal for 2018 is to provide you with a selection of the best health plan choices on the Dealer Benefits private health exchange.
The federal OPEN enrollment for Medical plans closed January 31, but the Dealer Benefits private health exchange remains open for you. In the middle of the year, we help you quickly see if you qualify for a SPECIAL enrollment for Medical plans. We also make Short Term Medical plans available to you all year around to fill the coverage gap, if you have missed the government enrollment deadlines.
Be sure to take a look (under the More Benefits tab) at our new freshbenies “24-Hour Doctor On-Call” to save hundreds, or even thousands of dollars on your family’s healthcare costs. A fresh approach to benefits – we’ve brought a popular big company benefit to small businesses!
And the middle of the year is a great time to review your other benefit needs: How about beefing up your coverage for Dental and Accident?
Remember: All benefits you get through the U-Haul Dealer Benefits Program are voluntary and portable. When you make these benefits available to the employees of your businesses there is no cost to your Dealership. Each person can choose the benefit plans they want and they can take their benefits with them if they leave or the Dealership is closed just by continuing to pay for them.
